The Beach Chalet soccer Complex will remove over 7 acres of living grass and replace it with over 7 acres of artificial turf.  Plans also include installing over 150,000 watts of stadium lighting on 60 foot poles, lighting that will be turned on from dusk until 10:00 p.m. every night of the year, just a few hundred feet from Ocean Beach.  Ocean Beach is an area where families go to enjoy the fire rings and to view the stars in the dark.  Further development including removal of over 55 trees, enlarging the parking lot (San Francisco is billed as transit first, but apparently not in Golden Gate Park), paving additional parkland with an acre of concrete, installing tall fencing,  installation of bleachers to accommodate over 1,000 people.

A true GRASSROOTS group formed to give you a chance to vote on artificial turf and lights in Golden Gate Park!  Over 98,000 people voted to protect the park -- but over $900,000 was spent to defeat the ballot initiative and to destroy the western end of Golden Gate Park.  Learn more at: Coalition to Protect Golden Gate Park at: .
